Taliban foreign minister for the first time on European soil

 Sunday 23 January 2022

ISLAMABAD (news advertisment. DW newspaper. January 23, 2022) According to AFP news agency, the Taliban delegation has arrived on European soil for the first time for regular talks after the occupation of Kabul. The situation of rights and the issues of humanitarian aid are of paramount importance. Millions of people in Afghanistan are currently suffering from hunger, and in this context, the Taliban delegation is meeting with Western officials, but will also include representatives of Afghan civil society.

In addition to Norwegian officials, representatives of the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Italy and the European Union are taking part in the talks in Oslo.

According to the State Department, the agenda of the meeting is in the context of building a representative political system of the Afghan people, emergency humanitarian aid and economic crisis, security and counter-terrorism, and human rights, especially the education of girls and women.

Afghan civil society complains that girls' educational activities have been severely affected since the Taliban took over, while the Taliban are trying in various ways to keep women indoors and prevent them from playing a role in society.

Following the Taliban's occupation of Afghanistan, the United States froze all financial assets, including the Afghan Central Bank, which are still frozen, but the Taliban requested that Afghanistan be assisted on an emergency basis.

In a recent statement, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that many of the demands made by Western nations on human rights had been met and that the Oslo talks would play a key role in ending the war-torn environment.
