Colombo (Urdu Point News advertisment Latest - NNI. March 02, 2022) Sri Lanka has announced a nationwide 7 and a half hour daily power outage which is the longest period in the last 26 years. Sri Lanka is facing a severe foreign exchange reserve crisis that has prevented it from importing oil. Called a 'dark day'.The regulatory commission said: "We are facing an exchange crisis, not the ability to generate electricity, because the country does not have the dollars to import oil. The cut in power supply is the longest since 1996, when The country, which is 80 per cent dependent on electricity, faced such a situation due to depletion of reserves.

Under the new guidelines, all government agencies have been instructed to turn off their air conditioners in the afternoon to save electricity.

Bus operators say they do not have diesel available and half of the 11,000 buses are not running, but the general holiday on Tuesday did not have much effect. Speaking to AFP, the chairman of the Private Bus Operators Association said: "We will see the biggest impact of the diesel shortage tomorrow when people go to work," he said. The corporation said it had also talked to the government about raising the price.

Many pumps were shut down on Tuesday due to oil shortages and long queues of people were seen at the ones that were open. This is the worst economic crisis since independence from Britain. Sri Lanka's tourism sector is considered to be the most important source of foreign exchange earnings since the Corona epidemic devastated it. Extensive restrictions on imports were imposed to save.

Sri Lanka is currently facing an economic crisis as well as severe shortages of food, medicine, car parts and cement, and supermarkets are providing people with limited supplies of essentials, including rice, sugar and powdered milk. Food inflation rose to 25% in Sri Lanka during the year, while the overall inflation rate was 16.8%.
