Indian home minister proposes law to curb 'fake news'

NEW DELHI: Indian Pastor for Home Issues Amit Shah on Friday presented a bill in the Lok Sabha that arrangements with those spreading "counterfeit news or deceiving data" imperiling the sway and security of India.

Amit, while presenting the bills, guaranteed the three new regulations — The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita Bill, 2023 and Bharatiya Sakhshya Bill, 2023 — would safeguard every one of the freedoms given by Constitution to the residents.


He added that these bills fulfiled Top state leader Narendra Modi's promise to "end all indications of servitude".


Also, in the event that these bills are passed and become regulations, they will cancel the Indian Corrective Code, 1860, Criminal Methodology Code, (1898), 1973 and the Indian Proof Demonstration, 1872 tracing all the way back to the English period.

Amit commented: "The Indian Correctional Code, 1860 will be supplanted by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, 2023; the Criminal Strategy Code, 1898 will be supplanted by the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita Bill, 2023 and the Indian Proof Demonstration, 1872 will be supplanted by the Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023."


The proposed bills come just three days after the Indian chief won a no-certainty vote in the Lok Sabha.


The movement was advanced by Congress in a bid to compel Modi to talk on continuous ethnic conflicts in Manipur state.
