Islamabad (Urdu Point. DW Urdu. May 24, 2024) Ayatollah Khomeini, leader of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, has his roots in Bara Banki, a small town in India. His grandfather Ahmed Mousavi was born in Kantoor, a village in Bara Bangi district of Hindi Uttar Pradesh and later migrated to Iran.
The sudden death of the Iranian president, what will happen now?
20th anniversary of Iranian religious leader Ayatollah Khomeini
Ayatollah Khomeini is the person who overthrew the Shah of Iran in 1979 and played the most important role in establishing a strict Islamic government there.
Which today is an alternative power in the Middle East and has become a challenge to the United States and Saudi Arabia.
This might not have happened if Khomeini's grandfather Ahmed Mousavi had not migrated to Iran from a small village in the Bara Banki district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. But it is an interesting fact that the current history of Iran is rooted in India.
Khomeini's grandfather was born in Bara Banki
Baqir Moin, an Iranian journalist and writer associated with a British broadcasting organization, wrote in his book 'Khomeini'. In Life of the Ayatollah, it is written that Ayatollah Khomeini's grandfather was Seyyed Ahmad Mousavi, who was born in Kantoor town of Bara Banki. He used to add 'Hindi' to his name in reference to his association with India.
Ahmad Musa migrated to Iran from Bara Banki in 1830.
Persian is included in the list of classical languages in India
According to Baqir Moin, Ahmad Mousavi Hindi's father Deen Ali Shah came to India from Central Iran in the early eighteenth century. Ahmed Mousavi was born around the year 1800 in Barabanki, which is about thirty kilometers from Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh.
This was the time when the British colonial power was trying to strengthen its roots in India by defeating the Mughal rulers. Ahmad Mousavi was among the scholars who sought the renaissance of Hindi Islam and struggled to give it its rightful place.
Emigration from India to Iran
Ahmad Mousavi Hindi arrived in Iran via Iraq in the early 19th century for a better life and to promote his faith.
He stayed in the Iranian city of Khomein. Bought a house there and raised a family. He married three times and had five children.
According to Baqir Moin, among them was Mustafa who was Ruhollah Khomeini's father. who was killed on the orders of a local landowner when Khomeini was only five months old.
Although Ahmad Mousavi Hindi passed away before the birth of Ruhollah Khomeini, his teachings had an impact on the entire family and played a major role in Khomeini's thinking.
It is said that the teachings of Ahmad Mousavi changed the history of Iran.
Today's Iran is completely different from Iran before 1979. After Ayatollah Khomeini, his successor Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is the real ruler of the country. All important decisions of the government are taken with their approval.
Only time will tell whether Ayatollah Khomeini's sons will be able to succeed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. If it happens, it will also include the role of Barabanki, a small town in India.
