Former Indian cricketer David Johnson allegedly committed suicide

June 20, 2024) Former India and Karnataka cricketer David Johnson committed suicide by falling from the balcony of his fourth floor apartment in Kanakasari Layout, Kothanoor. According to Republic World, 52-year-old David Johnson had been battling depression and had been unwell in recent days. The Kothanur police are investigating whether it was a suicide or not.

David Johnson, who ran a cricket academy near his home, is survived by his wife and two children. "We received information that he fell from the fourth floor of his apartment building. He was taken to Crescent Hospital but doctors declared him brought dead," an official of the Karnataka State Cricket Association told Indian media.


"It is believed that 52-year-old David Jude Johnson fell from his apartment at Kanaka Sri Layout in Kothanur, raising suspicion of suicide," a police official said.


The news of David Johnson's death has shocked the cricket community. Former cricketers Anil Kumble and Gautam Gambhir expressed their grief and condolences. Kumble wrote, "Saddened to hear of the passing of my cricketing partner David Johnson. Heartfelt condolences to his family. Gone too soon, 'Benny'!". Gautam Gambhir posted "Saddened by the passing of David Johnson. May God give strength to his family and loved ones.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah also expressed his condolences on social media. He wrote, "Deepest condolences to the family and friends of our former Indian fast bowler David Johnson. His contribution to the game will always be remembered." David Johnson played 2 Tests for India in 1996, but fitness problems limited his opportunities at the international level. Despite this, he had a successful one with Karnataka. Enjoyed a domestic cricket career.
