BEIRUT: Syria's Bashar al-Assad gave his most memorable assertion since being brought down from power, saying he was cleared to Russia from the Hmeimim base on Dec 8 as it went under drone assault, in the wake of leaving Damascus that morning with rebel warriors shutting in.


His composed assertion was distributed on the Syrian administration's Wire channel and dated Dec 16 from Moscow, where he has been allowed haven.

The Russian army installation came "under strengthened assault by drone strikes" and "with no suitable method for leaving the base, Moscow mentioned that the base's order organize a prompt clearing to Russia", the assertion said.


The Kremlin said on Dec 9 that President Vladimir Putin had pursued the choice to allow Assad haven in Russia, which sent its flying corps to Syria in 2015 to assist him with repulsing rebel powers.
