Islamabad ( Latest News. August 9, 2022) The Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was signed between Iran, Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States in 2015. It happened. In the deal, sanctions were eased against Iran in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program. But in 2018, Washington unilaterally separated itself from it, after which Iran also accelerated its nuclear activities.
Negotiations in Vienna for the past several months to revive the nuclear deal were concluded on Monday. In this final round, after four days of negotiations, the EU presented a 'final draft'.
After which the diplomats of Iran and other countries returned to their respective countries, where they will discuss it further.
According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri has returned to Tehran for consultations.
What do we know about the new draft?
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said: After all the discussions we could do, we have presented the final draft."
Russian Ambassador Mikhail Ilyanov said that the draft presented by the European Union called for an easing of sanctions against Tehran in return for limiting its nuclear programs.
He said that now the negotiating parties have to decide whether this draft is acceptable to them or not.If there is no objection, the nuclear deal will be restored."
However, the Iranian news agency quoted an Iranian foreign ministry official as saying that Tehran is not at the stage to say anything about the finalization of the agreement.
The Iranian official added that Iran "will communicate its additional views and concerns after further deliberations and consultations in Tehran."
A deadlock in negotiations
Informal talks to revive the nuclear deal began in Vienna last week after months of stalling. Talks were started in April 2021, but it stalled in March this year.
A major point of contention was the removal of all sanctions against Iran that were reimposed by the United States after Washington unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018.
Media reports said that one of the reasons for the stalling in the talks was the investigation by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The UN nuclear agency reprimanded Iran last June for failing to adequately explain the discovery of traces of enriched uranium at three previously undeclared sites.
Iran demanded that the IAEA should first fully resolve the issues related to these questions. Tehran has long maintained that it does not want to develop nuclear weapons and that its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes only.
