Nuclear talks, Iran submits 'written response'

 Tuesday, August 16, 2022

Islamabad (Urdu Point. DW Urdu. August 16, 2022) Iran has submitted a written response to the nuclear deal with world powers. According to Iran's official IRNA news agency, Iran has submitted its final written response to the nuclear deal on Tuesday, presenting a complete roadmap. No further details have been released about the written response, but it indicated that Iran was not ready to accept the draft proposed by the EU and warned that there would be no further negotiations.

According to IRNA, there are differences on three issues, two of which have shown verbal flexibility on the part of the US, while the third issue is the guarantee of the survival of the deal, which requires a realistic approach from the US.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has blamed Washington for the continued delay in reaching the deal. Iran was given until Monday this week to submit its final response.

However, this has not yet been confirmed by the European Union. The European Union is playing the role of a mediator in the talks between the two countries.

Ned Pace, a spokesman for the State Department in Washington, said that the United States will inform the European Union of its response to this response. However, the United States agrees with the main points of the European Union. He said that the points on which it was possible to discuss have been done, but unacceptable demands are coming from the side of Iran.

These demands are contrary to the 2015 nuclear deal. Under the deal, Iran was to drastically limit its uranium enrichment in exchange for the US lifting economic sanctions on Iran. According to the US spokesman, if Iran wants to lift these sanctions, it will have to change its fundamental behavior regarding nuclear weapons.

What is the Iran nuclear deal?

In 2015, Britain, China, France, the United States and Germany reached a historic deal with Iran, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA.

Under the deal, Tehran was promised an easing of sanctions in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program. However, in 2018, then US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew the US from the agreement and increased sanctions against Iran. Iran also retaliated by intensifying its nuclear activities. However, now progress is being seen from both sides on this matter.
