Islamabad (Urdu Point. DW Urdu. 24. August 2022) this young pilot, who flew around the world with him in five months, belongs to Belgium, but he comes from England. Mac Rutherford, 17, boarded a flight from Sofia's Radomir Airport on March 23. He returned to Bulgaria in a small and very light plane called Akula.
Therefore, his name entered the world record book as the youngest pilot.
The plane flies at a speed of 300 kilometers per hour and is specially designed for long distances. It looks like a flying shark with two seats. It also has an optional fuel tank.
Where did Rutherford fly to?
On Wednesday, August 24, the young pilot returned to the same place he had taken five months earlier.
It takes about 54,000 kilometers to complete a full circle around the world. McRutherford met all the requirements to enter the Guinness Book of Records and crossed the equator twice. Rutherford has visited almost 52 countries on five continents. "This cycle is expected to last two to three months, but it lasted five months," he told AP.
"
In places like the Greek island of Crete and Dubai, Rutherford said, there are "delays in getting papers, visas, permits and things like that."
Rutherford visited Africa and the Gulf region and was exposed to extreme heat. India, China, South Korea and Japan, followed by Alaska, the US West Coast and Mexico, followed by the US East Coast and Canada.
From there it crossed the Atlantic through Iceland, Great Britain and Belgium.
What else do we know about Rutherford?
One symptom of Rutherford's insomnia in his youth was the fact that he carried a toy "foot bear" with him on long flights. He celebrated his 17th birthday on the flight. Before starting the trip, he trained in Charleroi, near Bouze airport in southern Belgium.
Rutherford's longest flight broke the record set last year by 18-year-old British pilot Travis Ludlow.
The Rutherford Family
Rutherford came from a family of accomplished aviators and began flying airplanes at the age of seven.
At the age of 19, Rutherford's sister Zara became the youngest woman to fly on the planet on January 20 of this year.
He used the same plane as his brother Rutherford on this trip.
Mac and Zara's father, Sam Rutherford, said: "They have been able to fly their own planes around the world in a safe, efficient and professional manner. They show other young people that you don't have to be 18 to fly a plane or be a pilot, certainly not 30 . It's important to do something different and achieve your dreams."
