In the matter of banning Imran Khan's speeches, the court has called for an affidavit from Chairman Pemra

Lahore (Urdu Point Newspaper Latest. December 20, 2023) In spite of the court order, a hearing was held in the Lahore High Court on petitions against the ban on the speeches of the founding chairman PTI. Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza of the Lahore High Court heard the petition of the founding chairman PTI. On behalf of Founder Chairman PTI Imran Khan, lawyer Ahmed Pansuta appeared. The court called for an affidavit from Chairman Pemra.

The court said that the chairman should give an affidavit in the court that he did not ban the statements and interviews of the founder chairman on the channels. The court has ordered the Pakistan Broadcasters Association to submit a written response.


The court adjourned the hearing on the petition till next week.

The position was adopted in the petition that they were stopped with the voice of Chairman PTI. Legally, it is a legal requirement for political parties to get airtime on the principle of equality. The Lahore High Court had postponed the notification banning the broadcast of Chairman PTI's speeches. Despite court orders, Chairman PTI's speeches are being prevented from being aired.

It should be noted that on August 21, 2022, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) banned all TV channels from broadcasting the speeches of former Prime Minister Imran Khan live. In the notification issued by Pemra, it was said that Imran Khan's speech was banned under Section 27 of the PEMRA Ordinance 2002. In the notification, referring to Imran Khan's speech at F-Nine Park Islamabad last night, it was said that Imran Khan is constantly making baseless allegations against state institutions, his statements against state institutions and officers are in violation of Article 19. In the notification, Imran Khan's speech at F-Nine Park Islamabad was referred to.
